INstead of flying to Corpus for the break I had switched my flight to go to Houston to catch up with my family who were at the side of my Grandfather who was suffering from pnemonia and a staff infection which was complicated by his old age and a previous stroke, leaving him paralized on the right side. My Christmas in Houston was great. It was so good to see my family. I was even able to see my cousins that I havent seen in like 2 years. But finally, after being in the hospital over a week, my Grandfather left us for the Lord. December 29, 2009.
My Grandfather was amazing. He was was a leader. He lived through the toughest times, with a single mother during the depression, fought in WWII, helped Hispanics win some battles in the Discrimination of the 50s, raised three amazing boys (of which 2 became lawyers like himself and one worked with the Internatioal Space Station with Russia, Japan, Lockheed Martin and NASA), rejected an offer to work for President Johnson after the death of JFK to raise his family, had to suffer the early death of his first wife and of his first born son. Yet still became an amazing witness of a devote follower of Christ and of his steady work in law for over 50years, his commitment to serving others and leading so many group, church groups, bible groups, helping the Latino community, helping the homeless community, helping the unborn, and everything inbetween. The man is an exsample of perserverence, dedication, commitment and faithfulness. He was the ultimate man, one that created a better world every moment he breathed. His affection is strong, as hundreds of people have been blessed by him. Some call him a Hero. Some call him a God-send. Some call him a Leader. Some an Angel. I call him my grandfather. Frank M Pinedo. I love you and will miss you deeply. See you in Heaven. -DP
May 23-25 This break was the first in a long time. It was a three day break and it was loaded. And I loved it.
Sunday was my dad´s birthday. Since it was his birthday, we celebrated accordingly. After going to church and eating a brunch, and my dad taking a nap, me my dad and Skunk went to play tennis, but as we were leaving, it started to pour like rediculous. THere was now way we were going to be able to play tennis. So we came back and had a table tennis tournament, which was awesome. Of course, Pinedo style ment dressing all up. So that is what we did. And it was great, especially because the duo of Carlos and DP equalled victory. It was sweet.
But no party at the Pinedo House is completel with a little splash from the pool, so the Ultra-Lame Carlos hotdog stayed inside while the men of the house went out to play some king of the hill in the pool and it was epic. SO much fun having the young to the old (hint, my dad) in the pool dueling it out.
Later on we went to eat in my dad´s honor and watched the Orlando/Cleveland game. We are all hoping that Orlando wins in the East and that the Nuggets and Chauncy win in the West. It was great time spending with my dad. And it was great to see Orlando win.
Monday was sweet, cause it was another day off. We were able to all go to the beach together. You know the last time I have been able to go to the beach? Well, you wouldnt know, but to tell you what, I wouldnt know either! Its been forever! Since last summer (obviously haha). But it was good to go out with my family and get the surf´s up and jump in the waves with my bros and play catch with my dad and the football. And of course playoffs, lots of playoffs. I love it. I love watching the passion of the playoffs.
I forgot to mention about Mother´s Day in the last post. Mother´s day here was wonderful, and that is attributed to the fact of having a wonderful mother to celebrate. She is strong and wise and prayerful. She is wonderful and full encompasses everything that one needs in a mother. We are truely blessed to have her, and ever Pepper our dog will attest. Thanks, Má, for all you do.
Now the Playoffs. Its playoff time, and now Conference Finals time and its getting pretty intesnce. I loved the Rockets/Lakers matchups and I wished the Rockets would have made it even thought the Lakers were the obviously the better team against the T-Mac and Yaoless Rockets. But it doesnt mean they didnt put up a fight, which was awesome.
Then there was the NBA Conference finals, with Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers on one side int he West and the Orlando Magic against the Cleveland Cavelears in the East. Kobe vs. Carmelo and Howard vs. LeBron. Of course the Nuggets have been taking off. Ever since Denver took Chauncey Billups from Detroit, Detroit has been doing awefull and Denver has been doing awesome. How awesome? Well, Detroit has made the Conference Finals for the last 6 years. Denver hasnt made it in the millenium. Guess who made it this time? Denver and Chauncy made it and Detroit the Chauncyless didnt. Yea, its that important.
Well, I was really hoping that Orland and Denver would move on. Thus far its been pretty brutal. I think Orlando will take off into the NBA Finals. LeBron is doing really well but unfortunately for him the rest of his team is not. I feel like they dont deserve to make it to the finals no matter how good their all-star is playing. ON the other hand we see Denver and Los Angeles. Kobe has been doing really well and I have really enjoyed seeing his gam mature the past 3 years. He is so much better now than he has ever been. And I really glad he has become a full-eoncompassing player. But you know what? I rather have the newly stocked Denver with Carmelo, Chauncy, K-Mart, and Birdman make it to the Finals than Odam and Brown. Its just me.
But hey, dont forget about the NHL, baby! Its time! And Detroit, the playoff team is doing well! They have been playing against Aneheim who beat the #1 seed to play Detroit. They have played valiantly, but Gooden and Divak and Zetterber look like they will outmtch them and play for the Stanly Cup again! Only time will Tell!
Well, I will keep you guys posted on the playoffs and more stuff from the summer!
